Daisy Stocking Park
Dedicated to Daisy T. Stocking, one of Daytona’s foremost African-American humanitarians and medical practitioners, Daisy Stocking Park is located in the center of Daytona Beach adjacent to Bethune-Cookman College. Leveraging a multi-million dollar renovation budget, the design focused on enhancing the facility’s user experience and visual stature parallel to the rising usage of the park space for City events, College events, art shows, and musical performances. As the project lead, Castle Bay led a team of highly-respected professional sub-consultants to design and successfully deliver a full set of construction documents within a very short 3-month design phase in an expedited effort to meet the parameters of the grant funding requirements. Once complete, park users will be in awe of the custom, architecturally dynamic shade structure placed over an elevated stage and 5 thousand square-foot seating area, multiple park elements custom designed by Castle Bay, including a 15’ tall Daisy Stocking silhouette gateway feature at the park entrance, family-style pavilions with coquina-clad barbecue grills, a woodland inspired, climbing oriented playground feature, pedestrian level lighting enhancements, multiple varieties of outdoor-rated play tables including table tennis, corn toss, and chess/checkers, as well as new native landscaping and irrigation throughout. Slated to open in the summer of 2023, Daisy Stocking Park will surely become the most revered park space in the City and likely become the gold standard by which future park spaces are prescribed to meet in their design, functionality, and sustainability.
