PROJECT OVERVIEW:

With a massive revitalization effort underway, visionaries and local residents of Historic Downtown Hastings brought in Castle Bay to conceptualize what a renovation of Main Street may look like should stakeholders push forward with a local campaign to renovate the downtown commercial corridor.

Castle Bay approached the project by identifying the most critical needs existing today within the Main Street corridor and dovetailed those with several additional enhancements that would result in a safer, more functionally complete, visually dynamic downtown streetscape environment.

Incorporating many elements of the Complete Streets movement, Castle Bay’s Conceptual Streetscape Master Plan included safer intersections by the strategic use of curb extensions and crosswalks, a streetlight program, a street tree program, expanded pedestrian walkways with provisions for outdoor dining, and the removal of excessive expanses of impervious areas into green spaces.
