The Lake Maria Sanchez Flood Mitigation and Drainage project in St. Augustine pairs critical infrastructure improvements with a carefully considered historic streetscape enhancement strategy. Building upon the City’s 65% roadway design submittal, Castle Bay prepared a comprehensive streetscape rendering package illustrating “before and after” perspectives across key intersections — integrating pedestrian paving options such as coquina aggregate and clay brick, enhanced lighting, landscaped planters, and refined roadway detailing.

The Lake Maria Sanchez Flood Mitigation and Drainage project in St. Augustine pairs critical infrastructure improvements with a carefully considered historic streetscape enhancement strategy. Building upon the City’s 65% roadway design submittal, Castle Bay prepared a comprehensive streetscape rendering package illustrating “before and after” perspectives across key intersections — integrating pedestrian paving options such as coquina aggregate and clay brick, enhanced lighting, landscaped planters, and refined roadway detailing. The visualizations provided a clear framework for balancing stormwater improvements with the architectural character and pedestrian scale of the surrounding historic district.
Advancing from visualization to implementation, Castle Bay developed full construction documentation, including vegetation management, hardscape detailing, decorative wall reconstruction, lighting coordination, landscape, and irrigation plans in compliance with City standards. Through detailed inventories, preservation strategies, and coordination with permitting agencies — including presentations to the Planning & Zoning Board and the Historic Architectural Review Board — the project reinforces the City’s commitment to resilient infrastructure while honoring the distinctive heritage of Lake Maria Sanchez and its surrounding neighborhoods.
